Minnesota Disability Mural Project

Spectrum ArtWorks artist and Peer Support Specialist, Christi Furnas, is currently collaborating with VSA Minnesota on a very special mural project. What does "Arts Access" mean to you? VSA Minnesota is inviting individuals with and without disabilities to artistically answer this question as a part of the Minnesota Disability Mural Project. Workshops are taking place in the Twin Cities and St. Cloud, days and evenings, through August 31. Christi will be facilitating the next workshop here at Spectrum - Wednesday, July 24th. She will also be facilitating another workshop at Spectrum on Wednesday, August 7th.

Each workshop will provide a variety of supplies and art-making implements to accommodate people with physical and sensory disabilities in barrier-free settings. ASL interpreting is available by contacting VSA Minnesota three working days in advance.

The completed mural of visual art - created on 12"x12" masonite tiles - writing and video will be exhibited in October during Disability Employment Awareness Month at Minneapolis City Center and The Paramount Visual Arts Center in St. Cloud. This is an exciting project and we are looking forward to seeing members of the community participate during the workshops at Spectrum!
