Since 2004, Spectrum ArtWorks, a program of RESOURCE, has been working to support professional artists living with mental illness. Located at the Lighthouse, a Community Support Program in Minneapolis, the program meets its mission through a community-focused and recovery-based approach. Its multi-faceted art studio and programming assists artists at reaching and maintaining their artist-related goals such as making new art, connecting with other artists, and accessing exhibition and grant opportunities. In addition to this, each year the program organizes a new exhibition that aims to meet its mission to challenge stigma and raise mental health awareness. In 2015, the program partnered with the Minneapolis Institute of Art to bring “In Conversation,” a residency and exhibition that featured 17 artists from the program. Each participant created a new piece of art that was in conversation with an object or artwork in the museum’s collection. In 2017, Spectrum ArtWorks facilitated “The Big Picture,” a group exhibition that presented artwork that explored wellness in recovery through art. “To Really See,” opening August 2017 at the Hennepin County Library – Central Minneapolis, is Spectrum ArtWorks first every traveling group exhibition. The show explores the medication-taking experience and will feature artwork from artists who use Spectrum ArtWorks services and artists from across the state of Minnesota.

Christi Furnas

Christi Furnas is a Minneapolis based oil painter and illustrator
who has been showing her work for more than twenty years. She as exhibited in
venues such as Soo Visual Arts Center, Regla De Oro Gallery, and Outsiders and
Others Gallery. Furnas is a recipient of the Creative Community Leadership
Fellowship from the Bush Foundation in 2011, and the VSA Emerging Artist Grant
from the Jerome Foundation in 2014.
As the Peer Support Specialist for Spectrum ArtWorks, a program of RESOURCE, she facilitates open studio, and supports members of the program reach professional and artistic goals. Furnas is dedicated to ending stigma regarding mental illness. As an advocate, she has been featured in media such as Minneapolis Star Tribune, The Advocate Magazine, and The Minnesota Women’s Press speaking on the subject. Currently, she is exhibiting in Made Here MN: Intersections, has a solo exhibition at Regla De Oro Gallery and recently participated in Spectrum ArtWorks’ exhibit: Impossible Things at The Nicollet and Made Here's public art exhibition Intersections.
Jes Reyes

Jes Reyes is an multidisciplinary
artist. She came to Spectrum ArtWorks in September 2014, after working
full-time for many years in community mental health services. Recent
photography and video work of hers has exhibited with Artists in Storefronts, Made Here, and
the Walker Art Center.
In her role Jes coordinates
programming for Spectrum ArtWorks. She manages its multifaceted studio space
and is a direct support and resource to artists living with mental illnesses. In
addition to this, Jes plans, organizes, and executes Spectrum ArtWorks annual
group exhibitions, holiday sales, and group/recreational activities.
